The Sutherland Theatre Company is holding auditions for our November production of Royce Ryton’s classic play The Unvarnished Truth.
Tom and Annabel are a reasonably happy married couple. One evening they have an argument as to who loves the other most. A rough and tumble ensues, and Tom discovers to his horror that Annabel is dead. So starts a hectic evening of black farce which also involves Tom’s policeman and his literary agent. It seems no woman can enter the house without rapidly becoming deceased. Annabel’s mother and Tom’s appalling landlady follow and disposal of bodies becomes an acute problem. The arrival of a grim police inspector complicates matters until a further corpse involves him too. The hysterical ending finds the stage littered with female corpses, frantic males and a potential fifth victim banging on the door.
The Unvarnished Truth will play at the Sutherland Memorial School of Arts from November 10-19. Auditions will be held as follows:
Date: Sunday 30 July
Location: Sutherland Memorial School of Arts, East Parade Sutherland
We are looking for four male and four female actors to fill the following roles:

Bert Hopkins (40-70): A sensible police constable who was in the army with Tom.
Mrs. Cartwright (60-80): Annabel’s mother.
Bill Carlisle (40-60): Tom’s literary agent.
Mrs. Steward-Dubonnet (40-70): The Bryce’s landlady. An obnoxious, opinionated old woman. Prone to suing people.
Inspector (40-60): A stereotypical British police inspector.
Isabel (50-70): Mrs. Cartwright’s companion. A bit dotty.
No audition booking or preparation required. Just come along on the day.
