Mytyl and Tyltyl are two sisters who, when visited one winter’s night by a mysterious Fairy, are soon swept up into a magical, uncontrollable journey. Their household comes to life, the creatures in charge of protecting them plot their demise, and their parents haven’t realized they’ve gone missing. In the midst of all this, Mytyl and Tyltyl are forced to find the ‘Blue Bird of Happiness’, a seemingly elusive bird hidden somewhere in the eerie dreamscape they are lost in.
Back from a sold-out run in the 2016 SUDS Summer Slot, ‘The Blue Bird’ is coming for Verge Festival 2017. Blurring dream and reality, death and life, and magic and madness, ‘The Blue Bird’ will unpick every part of us we thought we knew, set against the mysterious arches of the University of Sydney’s Quadrangle and taking place only as night begins to set.
Show date: Wednesday 11th October, 7 pm.
We are looking to cast between 18 and 20 actors as follows:
Core cast of 4, main cast of 9 (2 roles per actor), ensemble of 5 – 7.
All characters except Mytyl and Tyltyl will be cast gender blind. Anyone from any background is welcome!
Auditions will run for 20 minutes. Please read the plot and production summary and prepare ONE monologue from the following document: https://docs.google.com/
You will then be asked to perform a cold read.
