Character descriptions and requirements
Audition pieces will be available on each night, but please have an approximate 2-3 minute monologue prepared.
mid-late 30s, Leo’s minder; self-loathing and resilient.
late 50s, Leo’s daughter; complex and detached.
60s-70s, famous Australian artist; alcoholic and cantankerous.
late 30’s, handyman; practical and kind-spirited.
(Karl & Gavin are required to be played by the same actor. Gavin is a very small role.)
Setting is the ramshackle Sydney home and studio of famous Australian artist Leo Bailey, a brilliant yet abusive and alcoholic artistic genius. When his detached daughter Margo hires Therese as Leo’s latest minder he is faced with a battle of wits from her self-loathing yet resilient attitude. With the introduction of kind-spirited handyman Karl, we see these four damaged souls struggle to accept their own and each others’ demons with resilience and a hope, at least, for forgiveness. The play is contemporary and will require Australian accents.
