Hobo Playhouse is looking for a talented actor to play the role of Ken in our production of Red by John Logan at the 2017 Castlemaine Fringe Festival (March 17-26).

Red is a moving and compelling account of one of the greatest artists of the 20th century, American abstract expressionist Mark Rothko.
The play is a two-hander set in Rothko’s New York studio in the 195os. Rothko has been commissioned to paint a group of murals for the expensive and exclusive Four Seasons restaurant for a record amount of money for artist of that era.
Ken, who is in his 20s, is Rothko’s assistant. He is hired to mix paints, stretch and prime canvases, and run errands for Rothko.
An aspiring artist himself, Ken is an eager student of the successful painter. But as the play goes on we see that Ken has got spine and a mind of his own and you can feel both growing throughout the play. Ultimately he challenges Rothko and grows to become a combative antagonist. Ken also has a dark past, which is revealed during the course of the play.
Auditions for the part of Ken will be held on Saturday, September 10, in Castlemaine. The part of Rothko has already been cast.
Auditionees will given a monologue from the play to prepare for performance on the day. They will also be required to do a scene from the play with the actor playing Rothko plus an improvisation.
For further details or to book an audition time call Jeff on 0457 843 551.
