Williamstown Musical Theatre Company Inc is proud to announce auditions for their May 2018 production of HOT MIKADO, which will be performed at the Centenary Theatre, Williamstown from Friday 18th May to Saturday 26th May 2018..

Nanki-poo, hiding a shocking secret, returns to Japan disguised as a wandering minstrel, in search of his lover, Yum-Yum – only to find that in his absence, she has been betrothed to Ko-Ko, the Lord High Executioner of Titipu. Hot on his trail is Katisha, Nanki-Poo’s jealous and devious fiance, who will stop at nothing to snare Nanki-Poo for herself. Meanwhile, Ko-Ko finds himself in need of a sacrificial victim, since his cowardly nature has prevented him from fulfilling his quota of executions. When Katisha arrives in search of Nanki-poo, and the Mikado himself follows in search of his long lost son, the town is thrown into panic and confusion. Will Nanki-Poo be able to hide his true identity and avoid execution? Will Ko-Ko find himself a suitable candidate to execute? Can true love win the day?

HOT MIKADO is a hilarious and ‘HOT’ updating of Gilbert and Sullivan’s ‘The Mikado’, and weaves a sharp witted, fun-filled tale where despite life or death stakes, characters still find time to croon their troubles away. Set in a fictionalized Japan, at a time when outlandish laws sentence people to death for almost any indiscretion, it is the language of jazz, gospel and the blues that is spoken most fluently.

The rambunctious musical style, which regularly quotes Sullivan’s original score and Gilbert’s lyrics, will be filled with fast-paced choreography, mind-blowing vocals and laughs galore, and is guaranteed to leave you tapping your toes in time to the swinging score.
