A series of One Act Plays Written and Directed by Members of ETC
ETC is proud to present a series of one act plays for its second season, written and directed by members of ETC.

Auditionees must be available to attend the play season as well as a number of One Act Play festivals in July (to be advised).
Audition Dates:

For Plays “The Visit” and “My Refrigerator is an Alien Spaceship
Sunday 14 April 2019 at 2pm
Tuesday 16 April 2019 at 7.30 pm
Auditions are group auditions and will start for everyone at the advertised times.  Please bring along completed audition form (can be found on the ETC Website at www.essendontheatrecompany.com.au) along with a non-returnable photograph.
As we are producing 3 one act plays, actors may want to be cast in more than one of the plays.  Please indicate on the audition form if you are interested in more than one play.
Each of the plays will be rehearsed on different days initially and towards the end of the rehearsal period we may move to rehearse each play on more than one day of the week.
Please Note:
Successful cast MUST BE available for rehearsal period as well as all production dates. Please check you are available for all performance dates before booking your audition time.
ETC is a community theatre company and, as such, no actors are paid.

Rehearsals will be once or twice a week, Tuesday and Thursday at 7:30pm or Sundays at 2pm.

Play 1 – The Consultation

Characters summary:
2 Males
Characters:
Gordon – Male approx. 40- 60 years old – psychotherapist, slightly paunchy, well spoken, well groomed.
Greg – Male, approx. 40- 60 – very fit, active, engaging
Synopsis:
Gordon is a practicing psychotherapist who lives a privileged but indulged lifestyle where money is the main concern. He loathes his job and refuses to admit it. The client from hell arrives and upends all the certainties in his life and makes him realise that unless he changes he could lose the things he cares most about.
Play 2 The Visit

Characters:
All actors require Australian Accents
MAEVE – Early 30s, Heavily pregnant with her second child.
LIZ – Early 30s, Next door neighbour and friend to Maeve, also pregnant with third child.
ROB – Early 50s, Maeve’s Dad, visiting for a while to help establish a garden.
MISS EVA LARSSON – Late 30s, Housing Commission of Victoria Inspector.
Synopsis:
During the mid – to-late 1950’s, post war Melbourne was in the grip of a massive shortage of public housing. Vast tracts of land were given over to the Housing Commission to help alleviate the problem and to place hundreds of inner City slum dwellers as the city was “cleaned up” prior to the 1956 Olympic Games. Waiting lists were long and selective. Tenancy was prized, but not guaranteed. This is the story of two young mothers’ efforts to challenge and expose corruption in their world, at their risk, finding courage they didn’t think they had.
Play 3 – My refrigerator is an alien spaceship

NOTE: The puppets will be worked by the actors -no puppetry experience necessary
Mother and Gloria can be played by the same person
 
Characters:
JESSICA WINDSOR- Mid 30’s, Disgraced Hollywood princess hiding out after a disastrous night at the Oscar’s. American accent.
AL- AN ALIEN- (puppet) 20+, A stranded out of towner. He is building a spaceship to escape Earth. Has an upper-class sounding voice .
MIKE FINCH- Mid 20’s, Jessica’s new Agent in training, who is trying to save her career. West coast American accent.
MOTHER/GLORIA – MOTHER- Hollywood Royalty. She has married and divorced many times. She is a major Hollywood player and owns most of it. (Ageless) General American accent.
GLORIA- AN ALIEN (PUPPET) Next door neighbour, retired. Once the greatest Make Up artist in tinsel town. New York accent.
GLENDA DICKENSON- Mid 30’s, This year’s best actress winner and the toast of Hollywood. Southern American accent.
We will need one additional puppeteer – no experience necessary – just need to be keen.
Synopsis:
When Jessica Windsor becomes the most despised actor in Hollywood, she hides out at a secret apartment. With the media and paparazzi on her trail, she gets “help” from her bumbling Agent Mike, and her conniving Mother.  Could she be in any more trouble? Well, yes, it seems she could be with the small matter of the Extra-Terrestrial hiding out with her!  Is it all over for Jessica? Or will the truth she protects blow Hollywood apart? A fast paced comedy featuring real humans and puppets!
