High School Musical 
is the high school experience we all wish we could have – a musical about pursuing your dreams, finding romance, celebrating friendship, and being accepted and appreciated for who you are… complete with awesome songs, basketball, some diva fabulousness, and a guaranteed happy ending!

You will receive a confirmation email with your vocal and dance audition time. You will also receive an online form that is to be completed and submitted before the dance audition, as well as some audition information and tips.
Vocal Audition Requirements:
• Vocal Auditions will take place at The Fab Factory – 33 Industry Place, Bayswater – and will take between 5-10 minutes. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the audition to read over possible script excerpts.
• Please prepare one song in the style of the show (musical theatre/pop) – maximum 3 mins in length. Please ensure it is age appropriate.
• An audition pianist will be provided. Please bring sheet music in the correct key, with clearly marked ‘cuts’, in a folder. You will have a chance to talk through your music with the pianist prior to the audition.
• Backing tracks may also be used, with USB, CD, iPods and phones (with aux connection) or Bluetooth connections available. Please ensure any track is downloaded (do not rely on internet or YouTube).
• Auditionees will be asked to partake in a ‘cold read’ of a short scene from the show. Copies of scripts will be available in audition waiting room for auditionees to read through prior to their audition time.
Dance Audition:
• There will be two parts of the dance audition. All auditionees will be required to take part in an open call, and a more advanced dance call will be run for any auditionees who wish or are asked to stay. Please arrive at least 10 minutes before the audition time supplied to check in and receive a number.
• Please wear comfortable clothing that you can dance in, eg. leggings and t-shirt, tracksuit pants/shorts and singlet. Jazz shoes or runners to be worn. No skirts, tight jeans dresses or barefeet please.
• The dance audition will take place at Kim Annette Dance Studios, 3 Woodbine Court Wantirna South. There will be a room to warm up in prior, and a place to leave bags.
Please note:
•  For our records, the audition may be filmed.
• Any 18 year olds cast will need a current Working With Children Check card.
• If accepted into the cast, memberships and show fees total $150, payable within the first month of rehearsals. Cast will also be expected to provide or purchase minimal costume items including shoes, stockings, and stage makeup.
• This is an unpaid opportunity.

Troy Bolton
• Athletic, attractive and a true leader, Troy is the most popular kid at East High and the star of the basketball team. However, a chance encounter sees him fall for Gabriella and discover a love of music that makes him yearn to be more than his friends and coach dad expect him to be.

Gabriella Montez
• It’s not easy being the new girl in school: Gabriella is trying to blend in and avoid the ‘smart kid’ label she usually acquires. She has shy charm, a brilliant mind, a new secret passion for singing AND soon discovers that the cute guy Troy who she met New Years’ Eve also happens to go to East High…!

Sharpay Evans
• Self-proclaimed music theatre goddess, and the unchallenged diva star of the school musicals, along with her younger twin brother Ryan. She thinks her stage status defines her, so is willing to do anything to retain it, no matter what the cost to others. Undeniably fabulous, even in defeat!
• Gender: female

Ryan Evans
• Sharpay’s fraternal twin, and also theatre-obsessed and a talented stage performer. Despite his flamboyant diva exterior, he is warm-hearted and loveable, so he begins to resent living in his sister’s shadow and wants to make a change.

• Vocal range: B3-Bb5
Chad Danforth
• Troy’s witty best friend: star basketball player, fellow jock, and second-in-command. Chad is strongly focused on winning his school’s basketball championship, but is slowly understanding that there might be more to this world, including his sparring crush on Taylor.

Taylor Mckessie
• The competitive head Brainiac of the school and President of the Science Club. Smart and sassy but also a loyal friend in the end, she convinces Gabriella to join the Science Decathlon team, masterminds the eventual solution to Sharpay’s scheme, and has a hidden soft spot for Chad…!

Zeke Baylor
• A basketball player on the Wildcats Team. Energetic and charismatic, Zeke has two clique-breaking secrets he’s happy to finally reveal: a crush on Sharpay and a love for baking!

Jack Scott
• The resident loud speaker announcer for the high school (in a role unique to HSM on Stage), Jack is shy and insecure in person, but smooth and confident at the mic. Known as the “Velvet Fog of East High.”

Kelsi Nielsen
• The drama club’s rehearsal pianist and student composer extraordinaire who is having her musical produced at school. Despite her mild and demure demeanor, Kelsi can be forthright, outspoken and thoroughly determined when she needs to be.

Ms. Darbus
• The kooky, eccentric Drama Club teacher. She has her self-absorbed moments but is still devoted to her students and constantly encourages them. Passionate about the art of theatre, and surprisingly fun and funny.

Coach Bolton
• East High’s stern basketball coach, and Troy’s dad. He lost the big game years ago and wants his son to succeed where he failed. Although initially blinded by this ambition, he is still a good guy and proud father.
